Sensory Processing Workshop 1 - An Introduction to Sensory Processing Difficulties (SPD)

6th March & 9th October 2017 at the Conservatoire, Blackheath

Overview

This dynamic workshop starts with an introduction to sensory processing. We explore how issues around sensory processing can make everyday tasks challenging for children. The workshop provides strategies to reduce the impact of these difficulties to lay the foundations of a supportive environment at school and at home.

Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of how children with SPD struggle to engage in the classroom. How this can manifest itself in behaviours and how to spot children who are struggling.

  • To understand sensory processing difficulties
  • To understand sensory processing and the impact on learning
  • To provide a sensory lens to manage behaviour and engagement

Audience

This workshop is aimed at teachers, support staff, clinicians and families who are looking to understand how sensory processing disorders can affect so many of the children we know and work with.

Sensory Processing Workshop 2 Applications to Learning - Sensory Strategies

26th June 2017 at the Conservatoire, Blackheath

Overview

The Sensory Strategies workshop is designed as a follow on workshop for those who have already attended "An Intro to Sensory Processing Difficulties". This session looks at strategies and techniques which can be used in everyday life to help children with sensory processing difficulties. We will also look at ways to help with learning and engagement in a school environment.

This workshop is aimed at teachers, support staff, parents and clinicians who are looking to gain a better understand of how to manage behaviour resulting from sensory processing difficulties.

Learning Outcomes

  • To understand when behaviours are a result of sensory processing difficulties
  • To gain strategies for managing behaviours caused by sensory processing difficulties
  • To understand techniques for diffusing children's frustrations caused by sensory processing difficulties
